 This picture is very much different from most of the pictures I post on DPC. I thought alot about this one before I took it. I was in downtown Baltimore when I saw this homeless man begging on the side of the road. I was shocked and saddened by this scene. I actually circled around the block 2 or 3 times before I decided that I wanted to photograph it. I parked my car and got up the courage to walk over to him and ask if I could take his picture. I was embarassed and felt very awkward about it. I guess I didn't want to hurt his feelings by making his afflictions the subject of my photographic study. I took a few pictures and gave him some money. I thanked him and after I had left I was upset with myself for not taking some time to talk to him. When I look at this picture I think I will always wonder about the story of his life. Maybe it is better that way. I feel the picture tells it all.
I don't think this will score very well on DPC. Photojounalistic pictures like this are not usually well received here. I think the reason I decided to post it was not for the score but to jolt everyone's sense of reality and to make us realize that for the most part we all have alot to be thankful for. Thanks for looking.

My first impression when I saw this photo was that it was a 3rd world country....I'm heartbroken that it is right here in the United States. :/

Great shot. I like the subdued colors - they help emphasize the moral and societal (sp?) undertones of this powerful image.
