My shot is a tribute to Martin Schoeller. He is a celebrated photographer employed by the magazine
"The New Yorker". This shot gave me an opportunity to use my new studio lights. I am still learning (big time) how to use them :)

The facinating attribute of Schoeller's work is in his setup of the studio lighting. He manages to capture the catchlights on either side of his subjects pupils. In my shot I set up 1 of my umbrellas directly behind the camera, the other to the models left. I set up my stobe slightly back to the models right. I had 2 book ends on opposite sides of the side lights to reflect more light behind the model. If you look in the eyes of my model you will see the umbrella and camera reflected.

I am very happy with the shot... it will be interesting to see the reaction of the voters

I had the privledge of assisting for Martin during a magazine shoot a few years ago.
He's been using this method of portraiture for some time now.

I think you've done an excellent job at emulating this, and please allow me to criticize the criticism made about this being "not warm enough".
True, some of his are warm (filtered light).

Martin uses 2 banks of a non-traditional photo lighting source which are perfectly balanced for daylight and lend more of a cool tone.

great emulation...

Clean and soft. Very simple image, yet evocative. I like the way the dark shart ties in with the dark hair to balance the top and bottom. The brown eyes work very well with the pink of the skin and lips.

Very representative! Needs a bit more "erasing" on the right of the picture, but indeed a good interpretation of the challenge and your chosen photographer.

Good attempt. But when I look at the closeup series what I see are pictures that are warmer in tone with more contrast. Your picture seems to have a cold tone to it and could have been helped with some level adjustments to get it warmer. Also, you should have paid attention to the background... note the link and the backgrounds.

A lovely model. I did a brief search for Martin Schoeller, and this shot emulates his style of framing portraits quite well. The eyes are looking a bit up, which I find (for some reason). I like it other wise - a very nice picure.

Seems like you used your eraser tool to remove something on the right side of the photo. I can see it clearly. I think the focus on this image is great and I like the look of seeing the light strobe in her eyes. Great job on that one. What distracts me though is the background. If it were pure white, I think this would have been a stronger image. 6

What a tribute. Lovely and endearing as the white almost circle the iris. Great expression. Bumping up.

I wish she was looking a bit more at the camera, still, a fantastic rendition.
