 Thanks for the comments on this pic.

I agree with all the focus criticisms (I knew I'd get them!) and wish I'd had more time to improve on it.

As it happens I was trying to focus on the condensation at the back of the wok (to show temperature) and wanted to shoot a couple more of the steam mid way through but the food was beginning to burn! I ran out of time on the night of submission so I had to go with the best of only two shots.

Huh. I just saw your comment in the forums and took a look at this. I gave it a 9. I thought it was fabulous... I can't believe so many people saw this as out of focus. To me, the softness suggested motion, suggesting stir-frying, suggesting heat. Really surprised this didn't do better.

The focus is cooking on gas - but rather than either the food or the burner being the focus, it looks like the spatula and far side of the pan are. The light glare off the near side of the pan is also a bit distracting. This is a nice composition - I'd have liked to see it with a different focus. The way the steam is captured is very nice.

Love the compositon and it's an original idea. The focus isn't quite right. What appears sharp to me is the area to the right of the skillet instead of the stir-fry. Color and contrast is great.

Image is out of focus...needs more DOF...and does not seem to "feel" hot...some bubbles or more steam would help. thanks

I think this would have worked better for me if the focus was more toward the camera side of the wok, the blur is a bit distracting.
