Bridalveil Falls, Yosemite National Park CA

I know some might recognize it from seeing it posted in my portfolio before, but this is what I feel my best is of 2005 and I couldn't resist to enter it. I hope that it doesn't get penalized in voting from those who might recognize it.

The sun was just peeking over the cliff and lighting up the water and mist, but still leaving most of the cliffs in shadow providing a nice contrast between the two. I knew when I took it that it would look best in black and white.

Post processing:
*Convert from Raw to jpeg
*Desaturate
*Levels adjustment to make it more high contrast
*Some dodging and burning to bring out more detail in the water
*Burned sky to make it darker
*Some minor cloning here and there to clean it up a bit
*Resize to 640
*USM
*Added border
*Save for web

Would have loved to see a bit more light on the cliff in the right part of the image. Looks like the contrast boost erased quite a bit of detail.

I was there just recently and it looks jsut like it could be one of the photos from Ansel Adams studio in Yosemite. Nicely done.

A great capture of the power of Mother Nature! Love how the eye is drawn down with the falls and then sweeps back up again. Nice job!

I have always wanted to visit this waterfall and this pic just reinforces that. Beautiful shot.

This is a spectacular view and a nice black and white. Black and white on a landscape, especially with a waterfall, is very bold and I like it :) 10

This is gorgeous. Could be an Ansel Adams himself!

Looks like a Brent Ward.
If it's not, take it as a high compliment.

Very Ansel Adams like feel to it. There's something about the sky that looks...odd. Can't quite put my finger on it, but just looks...flat compared with the rest of the image. Otherwise, terrific shot and the black and white just makes this work and all the more powerful. 8

Well, you've set yourself a task with this shot given that it's an Ansel Adams classic! I think you've captured the textures of the water really well but the rockface looks a little dark (and flat in tone) and poorly resolved. However, it does set off the water really well, as does the portrait orientation. Good work.

This is a nice shot of the falls however the darks are too dark and lacking in any detail. I don't know if you converted his but perhaps upping the blue channel would have brought out more detail.

I like the high contrasts you've used here, though the darks may be a bit dark there on the massive wall. This is very well done. Thanks for showing! 9
