Challenge: Best of 2005 (Advanced Editing IV*)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ED
Location: Cape Spear, NL
Date: Dec 31, 2005
Aperture: f/9.0
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/60s
Galleries: Landscape, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Jan 15, 2006

Taken just south of Cape Spear (the most easterly point in North America) on a very blustery day with constantly changing light. The small building that is unfortunately not very visible at this size is the old light house.

Straighten, crop, fiddle with saturation & contrast a bit, USM, save for web.

I love the emptiness and the dreariness of this shot. Really nicely done.

Isolation gives this image a feeling of the unknown, and the stillness appeals to me...

Nice sky but the shot just lacks a focal point, i.e. What compositionally am I looking at? Re-composing with the puddles much more of a feature would greatly improve this shot IMO.

Nice, I've never walked that far out at Cape Spear.

Did you try lightening the foreground a bit. This might make the ponded are better.

Nice sky, but the composition is quite bland and dark. The building is too far off and too small to provide an interesting middle-ground or background effect. I would have rather scene the building from much closer to set off your nice sky.

A little too dark and bleak for me.

I dig the perspective - the lighthouse is soooo tiny

An understated landscape, but with the added charm of including a miniature landscape-within-a-landscape in the foreground rock and pools; a clever subtlety that has only recently been brought to my attention as a landscape technique. For that and several other reasons, this is a very satisfying and "complete" work. 8.
