We took the kids to the Toronto Zoo on October 30, 2005. We observed these two sweethearts in an 'aquarium' (probably not the correct name for it, since there was no 'aqua' involved), which contained some sort of fluorescent lighting. The building itself was mostly naturally lit by skylights. I had the camera set at 1600 ASA, steadied with a monopod, and I used flash for fill. I knew this stew of a lighting mix, on top of the high sensitivity setting, would result in an interesting white balance problem to solve, and possible colour shifts, but I hoped for the best. I was lucky, and the colour mix turned out to be pleasing.
I post processed as follows.
- RawShooter conversion from RAW to 16-bit TIFF
In PS, I applied the following:
- Noise Ninja filter
- Focus Magic lens blur filter (set at 2)
- Auto Level tool
- Color Balance tool
- i2e filter for colour and contrast enhancement
- Nik Pro Contrast filter
- dodged and burned
That sounds like a lot, but in fact all the adjustments were fairly subtle, and the result is not too different from the exposure as taken. Original in camera crop was used.
Finally, resized, converted to sRGB color space, sharpened, and converted to JPEG.

interesting, but colors seem odd and looks a little oversharpened. |

awww.. Chameleon parental love. You just know that child is going to go "change" into a skimpy "skin" color and go out partying right after this! Darn manipulative chameleon teenagers. |

Wow, I'm curious as to whether this is post-process color shifts... or if those lizards are naturally so vibrant. Either way...great capture! |

Love the title. ROFL I feel as if the crop is a tad awkward though. That one fella is awfully bright. WOW |
