This was taken on my way to work today, I was already late, but I haven't submitted for any challenges for couple of weeks now and I really wanted to get back into the game.

I was driving on that old bridge when the sun hit my eyes and I immediately thought of the backlight challenge, I parked the car and snapped few shots and this was the best I came up with.

Edited using Photoshop CS2:

Unsharp Mask
Surface Blur
Unsharp Mask (again)

impressive--but tree is getting silhouetted

I can just barely make some detail on the trunk. Good thing too, cuz I would have deducted one point for being a silhouette.

Very stimulating. Direct shadow shot. BW is good. DOF is good.

this is real "enhancing". Good photo.
I just didn't like the lower right part, could've been cropped out, it's kind of a distracting

There is drama in this picture. I love the contrast and I am surprised how well the B & W works. 9.

Another one that I nearly missed. The image is quite magical with the light from the sun behind the tree.....

Lovely portrait of this tree. The halo of lighting that follows the major branches makes this all the better.

With advanced editing you could darken the sky even more - but this has a nice impact as is. I like the composition witht eh path in the corner and the silvery clouds on the thirds line.

maybe a little too much burn on the top part.

Nice feeling reminiscent of Ansel Adams. Less central composition would be better.

Great pic. But are we to believe that no advance editing was involved in that halo around the tree. Actually, even admitting this, the dodging could be less obvious. For these reasons - 6.

This is one of the best in the challenge, if a bit oversharpened.

DNMC
the subject must not become a silhouette because of the backlighting.
