Hurray! I was half drunk when i took this shot. Under normal circumstances I'd probably not even get a ribbon! Thank you all for your very insightful and extremely helpful suggestions and encouragement. As my first entry, i really didn't know what to expect, but you've all be very supportive and positive.

I can't stress enough the power of the Canon S30. I took this shot 2 days after purchasing it used online. I've always had a fetish for perspective, unique angle, and clear focus. Definitely had to use a tripod for this shot.

The S30 naturally produces a star filter effect for all long exposures (sorry S30 owners, I let the secret out), great bonus for the camera. The amber lighting really made for mellow mood and sleepy tone. I was happy for the fact that there were many complimentary lines to use for a great depth effect. I personally like how the rail tries desperately to contain the light from the lamps.

A few people suggested cropping out the boat, and i partially agree with them. Others found the boat a positive compositional element giving broader subject range.. and i partially agree with them too. Others prefered adding people on the promenade in order to fit the theme of the challenge, but i felt it'd be too distracting. The promenade works best as a complete and intact subject. I also feel that adding people would throw the composition off balance and would saturate the picture with too many visual elements. But they were all valid suggestions and i thank them for it.

My trusty little optex tripod has a level bubble indicating flat and level footing. This helped immeasuably.

Thank you all for the very kind feedback! good luck with your Round submissions!

This is a really nice street, and a great angle you shot it at. I gave it a 9 - I think it really connects to the challenge. Good job.

I have to highly rate this picture because of it's precise setting and harmony of objects. Altough I thought it didn't cover the subject I still think it's a BEAUTIFUL picture.

I like everything about this show with the exception of the "star" effect. Other than that....wow! Nicely conceived. Well composed. Technically excellent.

Wonderful perspective to this picture and focus and exposure are excellent. The yellow/golden tones are just sooooo rich and smooth. Compositionally, I find it very interesting to look at and I like the slightly off center division of the picture into left and right halves. The only thing I can think of that it may lack is some people presence...maybe strolling or sitting on the benches. Very well done!

Beautiful! I love the angle that you shot at. And I love the warm color that the glow of the lights gives everything. I love the composition, how you can see boats on the left and park benches on the right. Very nice.

I really like the converging lines and repetition in the railing. The boat on the far left and the bring highlight of the lamps pulls me away from the lines of the railing and walkway that I find most interesting.

Looks tilted to the right. I like the "fence" on the left however. Toning is OK.

A magnificent shot. Great composition and lighting. IMO I think some blurred images of people walking along the path would have added a little more feeling and sense of being out and about on the town. The boat on the left hand side is a little distracting too. (8)

Wow.

The image just begs you to enter it from the left side and then the starkness of the right side slams you back to remind you that you're seeing a photo. This image works on so many levels for me I find it difficult to explain.

Firstly the architecture is superb. You selected a great subject and shot it from a wonderful perspective. You caught the curved railing perfectly to use it to make the viewer feel the picture is organic and responsive in nature. The equally lined righthand side utilizes straight lines and brightness to uses more defined angles and straight edges to engender a feeling of mental rigidity.

The only thing I would be interested in seeing different is cropping the front of the boat out of the lefthand side of the image.

Great eye
