I like your choice of log as a subject. It looks nice and weathered and contrasty. A few things that make this shot a challenge:

1) It doesn't wow us with either texture or color. The blue of the sky is, to me, my least favorite shade. Evergreens, I have found, are almost impossible to make look good on a picture. I haven't figured that problem out yet myself. Actually, your pine is pretty nice, but the bushes in the background suffer a similar problem, they quickly turn into a greenish/black mush which isn't too fun to look at. The texture is nice in a way, but also the grass gets lost in a mishmash of lines. I bet the grass would actually look fairly nice on a canvas much bigger than 640 px.

2) You have one half of a nice landscape; and it's usually the half people forget, a foreground subject. However, the background (once you remove the log) is fairly nondescript. For the picture to soar we need to grow a mountain or something back there (which of course you can't do). perhaps more sky and some interesting clouds on a different day.

People were pretty tough voting. They wanted a WOW picture and I'm afraid this couldn't deliver those goods.

I used to live in a semi-desert region in Namibia. Also used to viit the Namib desert often (be4 the time of digital cameras). What makes this photo very interesting to me is the formation in front - looks like a fallen tree - what is a fallen tree doing in a desert. Great shot though

Nice subject. The sky's a bit bland but everything else makes up for it. Nice subject, would like to see a black and white conversion of this. The textures are lovely, 7/10

In leuw of your title I am not convinced, color a bit flat, great texture, light ok, dof nice, comp ok, overall not interesting

This is a tough love comment - technically this is a fine photo, it is in focus, the subjects follows the rules of thirds appropriately, color looks good. So what is the problem? It just isn't very interesting. This isn't a place that tells a story or compells a second look. I'm giving you a 5 because it is technically well executed, but overall a boring photo.

The fallen log, balances this fine image so well.....

I think a polariser would have helped this shot by deepenig the sky and bringing out more of the greens in the grasses, at the moment it all looks a bit flat.

not sure if the title is best for this image - but for me it doesn't really matter as I don't base scores on that.
I think the color saturation is perfect - not overdone. The same with the sharpness - perfect. The composition is strong. Over all this is a nice shot.

I'm not sure what the subject is here? The foreground objects dominate, but lack interest. Best of luck.

To me it seems a bit too busy, and slightly soft. Maybe USM would fix that? I think sepia may make it less busy-looking too.
