This is fake blood and a blade, I don't know why I'm doing this, but I hope it gets a small response at least. My cat made the mess as he walked past, to investigate what I was doing.
I predict a low score due to the subject matter :)

Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil

Composition - I think this is a very good idea. There are a lot of murders that definitely pose their share of unanswered questions. The blood doesn't look very real though and I think that's a big one here. You might have tried to take it just a little too close. Maybe from a couple inches further back would've been a little more advantageous for the fingerprint. The blood on the cloth below is a good idea, however if this were an exhibit in court, methinks that would be exhibit B. The serrations on the knife are a little odd. Maybe a smooth blade knife would've looked a little better. Who knows?

Technical - Just a little out of focus. Very close. Actually the part with the fingerprint is pretty well focused. Maybe its just good use of "selective" focus. Good lighting and exposure on this one. You might've been able to darken the red color in PS a little to make it look a bit more like blood, but it's not bad as is.

Overall - Pretty good concept with this one. Better than anything i could think of. I think you pulled this one off reasonably well. I think the last line of your comments hit the nail on the head. Most people don't want to think about this stuff except for us sick, twisted individuals who watch Law & Order and CSI every week. I think the picture is pretty good and think it deserved a little better rating than what it got. Good luck in future challenges. - Bob

I have to complement you on the raw shock value of this shot. I was going to comment on the upper right being out of focus.... but the focus, highlights, and stong diagonal line all help to to put my attention right on the jagged edge. I don't know that I would hang it on the wall, but it's a very affective photograph.

That's way too much evidence for CSI. Nice shot, good imagination, and effort. 8

oh no I think there's been a steak??? creative and pertty good but it's too fuzzy on the right side and could have had a little more light up top but the harsh lighting makes it seem more like a crime scene a 7

I'm puzzled, but that's the point, right? Very intriguing lines and textures. Well lit.

Is the fingerprint embossed? What kind of retouching was done to this in postproduction (if any)?

The title gives this composition a direction but after seeing forensics show after forensic show, I'm left feeling that the fingerprint shouldn't be so obtrusive. Perhaps hiding it in the image under a thin layer of the liquid would have been more to my liking.

The use of the spatter beneath the serated edge is creative. I'm not sure that's how it would be presented in court but it does give a more organic feel to the image that would have been lost with just the smooth metal and liquid color on the central subject.
