Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - This is a difficult picture to judge too much about the composition for me. I don't really see where you were going with this photo. I see the door is painted, but it doesn't strike me as being the question as much as the security guard in the background. I was kind of wondering what you were going for. Seems if it were more about the door, I'd be showing a lot more of it. I'm not keen on the composition of this photo though.
Technical - Contrary to your comments, I don't think the door is particularly sharp. Its just a little off, which is enough to drag your score down. This doesn't look intentionally soft either. The shallow DOF is good, but with my questions about the general composition, to what end is it useful? This is one where I think you could've done a little more with the title to give us a little hint to what you were going for.
Overall - The photo isn't blowing me away at all. It leaves me puzzled if you must know. I have to think its a strike against you if I have to wonder about the composition of this piece and what you were going for and how do all the elements of the photo tie in. Of course it could just be that I'm a little "slow" and don't really get it too. At any rate, take care and good luck in future challenges. - Bob |

I like the sharp focus on the door - it's very pretty. Even out-of-focus, the security guard in the background distracts a little, though, and at least for me this didn't really inspire questions. |

Day care center across the street from a bank? |

Is the guard picking his nose? I like the bright colors of the door, but I find myself looking for a central subject or some relationship between the door and the guard. Maybe you could use some technique, such as rule of thirds or a leading line, to draw me into the subject. |

Very imaginative. It's got me wondering. There is a nice uneasiness to the split screen effect the lends itself well to the theme. |

Nice contrast between the dark right side and the well lit left side. Good theme also with the guard possibly guarding this strange door? |

Title: Smoke Break I wish the knob was less washed out, its brightness detracts considerably. The floweris obtrusive too. 6 |

Is that a door to an early childhood centre, or a Bohemian cafe? The way it was shot makes it look like a perspective of a child just coming out of kiddie class. Nice. |

I love your depth of field in this, with the mysterious guy in the background. Intense. |

This is framed so well and dof is used so effectively I can't give it anything but a 10. Beautiful. |

need to put the focus on the doorknob. Then it would be an excellent use of a limited depth-of-field, with the blurry background. I like it |
