I've been here this time of year - this shot is more effective when the tree is not centered and your camera angle shows both the tree and the sea stacks without competing. Here is a similar shot that I have taken here:

It seems as if "La Mer" could also be titled "el Pacifico" :) Would this tree make its appearance again in 06?
That aside, the shape of the tree works good and I like the people at the bottom for scale. |

| Classic Oregon Coast photo! Great entry into this challenge. Indeed, we see one of the best known iconic shapes from entire the pacific coastline, Canada to Mexico, Haystack Rock. Excellent composition, with every quadrant in the rule of thirds offering the eye a different portion of the whole. The people in the lower right put the whole scene into perspective. 10! |

| I can see that it's the shape of the tree that's the subject here, and this is a very nice silhouette with a beautiful background. For some reason (distractions?) the tree doesn't pop out at me like I wish it would. This challenge aside, I think this shot without the tree -- with just the fence and the people and the sea -- would be truly amazing. As it is, the tree almost seems to be in the way. |
