I like the starkness of this image. |

Isolation works so well here, especially with the focus on the bare lifeless tree stump, great photo..... |

Nice. Could've done with a bit more contrast, but I like the composition here. The roots are a great touch. 7/10. IMHO really does need some bolder post-processing. Good capture anyhows. |

Great photo, wonderful tones and contrast. The roots really stand out nicely from the dark ground and add a lot of character. Well done! |

I think if the clouds were burned on this one it would be more powerful. I love this stark look but the clouds are a bit too plain. I would be really interested in trying to edit this after the challenge is over (if you don't mind). Good luck. |

I guess I'd have to understand the meaning behind "Pele" for the title. Not a spectacular landscape, but it gets the bleak feeling across. |

Very nicely done. The contrast and various midtones is lovely. (I hope you didn't keep any of that black sand!!) |

I'm only about 15% of the way through all the images in this huge challenge, but I had to stop to say that this one took my breath away. It is absolutely stunning.
[Back to say that this is one of my 2 10's. There were so many great images in this contest that I should have given more 10's, but this and my other favorite are so far above the pack, IMO, that I could share the high scores with any others!] |

Compared to the darkness of the ground, I find the sky to be a little flat. Maybe a slight contrast enhancement in the sky only would add a little more drama and impact? |

This is a nice shot. A little more croppiong and you will have had thirds, creating slightly more interest for the eye, well my eye anyway :). |
