So, It's New Year's day in Philadelphia. The Mummers are strutting up Broad Street and I am looking for shots of the indigenous "City Life". It seems like the homeless are all watching the Mummers. So, my original idea was lost.

These three guys, however, were done watching the parade and obviously tired from the previous night's partying and decide to take a break on a park bench. In case you can't tell from left to right we have a bear hat, liberty hat, and garland
attached to the hat.

Editing: Crop, Neat Image, Unsharp Mask. That's all folks.

I really like this shot. The tree as a natural border works well for me. What really appealed is it is a sight I see daily in Wellington, New Zealand on my way to and from work. It is great to see this happens elsewhere.

I think that the crop makes the photo look more of what you would see wondering around.

Things that I may have tried to take it up a notch would be a mild reduction in brightness of around -10 and up the contrast around 10 as well. This deepens the colour and may have pulled it through a little more.

Thanks, Doc and everyone else.

I had a few comments on cropping closer, but I ws afraid to crop more for two reasons. First I wanted the city to be present. I was afraid of not including enough city and getting voted down. Second fear was jaggies from cropping too much. The image shown I have probably already cropped 20%.

I do wish I had spent more time on this shot in camera though. I would have waited for the people in the background to go away. And much like you, Doc I am not good at candids. I took three of these from across the park and without looking.

Maybe I should have gone with the mural of the tree... :)

So we all know how bad I am at candids, so I really don't know what's possible here compositionwise or what isn't. IF you could have set this shot up any differently, I would have tried to shoot between the two front benches instead of over one. The left bench is now distracting and obscures part of our subject.

I think I would have cropped tighter. We look on the left and we see a tiny bit of SUV. Ditch it. The tree isn't a bad frame on the right, but maybe cutting off all the way past the garbage can. This makes our subject larger and we can see more easily that, in fact, they are wearing a bear hat, liberty hat, and garland.

The morning light isn't bad. It isn't spectacular, but I don't think it's hurting the picture. Maybe just a bit more contrast. I'd have to see it.

I do like the picture as a "slice of life". It is also interesting because we want to know the story of the hats. When I voted, I gave it a 6.

Average shot. I find it to be very busy thus detracting from the overall photo. This looks like a shot that a person doing surveillance or voyeur would shoot!

Looks a bit cold, but no snow in sight..

I like the colors, there is something blurry/distracting in the upper right corner and middle/right/top of picture. Overall I like it though, maybe increase contrast?

a pity about the seat to the left. Possibly a zoom in on the three musketeers ?

In my opion this photo's coposition isen't very well made. You have 3 caracters that are too litle on this bacground, there almoust lost. You shold of croped a lot of it and kept the midle.

A light hearted take on City Life! Just look at those party animals recovering. Nice clean clear crip image.

This has possibilities but I think the seat in front makes a barrier to thr main subjects 6

Nice shot that could probably benefit from cropping/enlargement.

Nice anecdotal moment but would like to be closer in to the subjects; but the perspective on the 'city' doesn't seem that interesting

This image was alive - so many of the others in this challenge were not. Great shot.

fulfills the challenge well, but not as much visual impact as my highest scorers.

Nice work - I like the three people on the bench seat, the people in the far background are unnecessary though.
