Challenge: City Life II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
Location: Niagara Falls, U.S.
Date: Jan 1, 2006
Aperture: f/5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 8 seconds
Galleries: Cityscape, Travel
Date Uploaded: Jan 1, 2006

This was taken on the American side of Niagara Falls looking at the Canadian side. The fog is actually mist coming off the Falls, and the bright blue lights are aiming at the Falls. I got some great shots of the Falls themselves with the blue light on them, which I will show after the contest is over. The Canadian side of the Falls has the Festival Of Lights this time of the year. I highly recommend you check it out, if you ever get the chance. This was about a 25-minute drive from my house, so I don't have to travel too far to see this.

Post-shot editing = rotating for horizon, levels adjustment, cropping, re-sized for web.

Enjoy!

I love these types of night shots, very nice.
It alway's interest me to see the shutter speed on the night shots.

Here are a couple other pictures taken that night that tie into this shot:

I had a great time shooting that night. I hope you like them.

Okay, from the comments I got it is very obvious the blue light knocked my points down a bit. That's okay--live and learn. I'm learning Photoshop, and I'm getting better at it every day. So, I'll know how to minimize the glare of the spotlights in the future (not that it helps for this entry). Thanks for the comments, and I'll post a shot of the Falls (with the blue lights shining on them) soon.

I didn't know they made light strands that long! I don't like the "search light" or whatever it is known as though.

Whatever that blue light is, it really distracts me from an otherwise nice cityscape.

Nice photo! Some of the lights seem just a bit too bright. The tower on the left with the round top, and the needle tip on the right are a bit over-exposed and appear to be blurred. It is an interesting composition and I think will do well.

Very well done, I'm sure you are getting the same thing over and over but the blue is somewhat distracting. However, in my opinion that's nitpicking, the sharpness is great...7

a pity about the blue flared light that distracts it. Other wise I like this. Possibly it might have been better to focus into one of the building groups ?

I like this night image but the blue light seems to distracts your focus too much.....

What the hell is that blue thing at the bottom left: a searchlight? It's distracting.

The blue light seems to take away from the power of the shot. Maybe it is because it is distracting instead of adding to image.

Niagra Falls? The blue strek is very distracting. I don't know if you could desaturate the blue channel and reduce the flare.

Lights at night from a distance, to me, aren't indicative of 'City Life.' Just life in the city - big difference.

i cant find live in this one .. ice

Beautiful lights - except the blue streak in the lower corner which I find distracting.

Great photo. It's too bad that there is such a halo around the blue light
