| too many harsh shadows, too much distraction in the backgound and there is a lot of grain in this shot as well |

Uninteresting subject. Don't use your flash or soften it by redirecting it.

| This has a lot of potential, but I think your lighting is a little harsh. Did you only use a flash. Also, IMHO, the perspective could be improved. I'd like to see you shooting the lamp shade straight on, so we just get the shape, and don't see the gathered material at the top. I'd also straighten the fringe at the bottom. |
