Well my photo number 4 here at DP.. Hoping this one might get higher the 4.3 , crossing my fingers even though i know it is very boring ;) Got my mums camera.. its a bit better then my old lump but not much. I ask everyone who reads this to tell my what im doing wrong (apart for camera problems) i really whant to get better at this.

too many harsh shadows, too much distraction in the backgound and there is a lot of grain in this shot as well

Uninteresting subject. Don't use your flash or soften it by redirecting it.

don't like the lighting. just snapshot-ish. composition is too centered and ordinary

This has a lot of potential, but I think your lighting is a little harsh. Did you only use a flash. Also, IMHO, the perspective could be improved. I'd like to see you shooting the lamp shade straight on, so we just get the shape, and don't see the gathered material at the top. I'd also straighten the fringe at the bottom.
