A candid from my basketball shots. Second time around for mom, first time for dad.....LET'S HAVE A BABY! She turned out perfect and perfection deserves spoiling! The center of her universe is MOM and a close second is BUBBA (her 16 year old brother that is in the same class as my son)

Thanks Mel and John. Mel....I don't think of this as a snaphshot but more of a candid. John, I have a hard time with lighting in a gym and shooting sports, they tend to frown on the use of a flash.

I am amazed at how many folks referred to MOM as GRANDMA....I hope my subject doesn't see this shot on here!

Thanks again!

Greetings from the Critique Club...

I think this photo meets the challenge well. I believe that it probaly didn't score particularly well for several reasons. It is a good candid photo of a mother and child, but there doens't seem to be any particular 'hook' to draw the disconnected viewer into the theme. The photo also appears to be underexposed. Your monitor may be a bit on the dark side possibly, but the image is rather flat and lacks good contrast. The subjects' hair color also feels quite odd. I run into situations like this with blondes when I'm shooting sports in some of my local gymnasiums. Mercury vapor lights tend to make blone hair turn green, which may be the case here as well. You may have had to do some desaturation to correct that, but I'm not sure. Some of those details aren't included in your own description, so I'm just making guesses based on my own experience :)

Composition is ok. The choice of subject matter is ok. The image quality is ok. Could have been a little more creative. = 5

The grandma's face seems a little bit grainy, and the white shirt is distratcting(I know you can't really change that), but all in all, it's a good image.

Hmm, grandmother? Well I think it's a damned fine image anyways. The look on the grand daughters face is wonderful

Almost crosses from snapshot to candid, but not quite. The girl's expression is cute, but she's slightly OOF.

There's a lot of warmth in this photo. It looks like the sharpness in on the woman's pink sleeve rather than the faces, but I am moved by the composition. It makes me wonder what they're discussing.
