I had just returned from a third trip to Kenya and once again, though I had seen leaopards, I did not see my favourite animal, the lion. I had a couple of days off and decided to head to our local zoo, where the lions were comatose in the grass. Double disappointment! Around noon the food came out...This lion glanced up for a split second during a feed. I was lucky enough to snatch the shot. This was taken with my Sigma (Bigma) 2kg 50-500mm through a wire fence.

ANY COMMENTS OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE MOST WELCOME, THANKS!

wow! now that is close. very intimate shot of a lion. not something you see everyday for obvious reasons. that makes this extra special.

Great angle - really gives the sense of power to the lion. Good focus & DOF too. Nice job.

Thank You Bacchus...I held my heavy 50-500mm lens by hand and shot through a fence (which blurred out as I was 1 metre away). On the original, you can see little droplets of water on the whiskers and hair around the mouth. Obviously, the reduced size here doesn't show this.

I took about 100 close ups while three male lions fed...it was an awesome morning's shooting

Thanks for your comments,

Enzo

I have a fairly simple comment for this one:

damn. that's awesome.

!!!

Beautiful detail! And I never thought I'd have a comment like this, but here it is: "Incredibly awesome detail on the nose!" LOL ~ I do mean it, though. This is just SHARP. Very nice!

EXCELLENT!!!!!! This is truly wonderful, as you are looking UP at him and the perspective is not the usual fare. I like the tight close crop and the details of the magnificent face are just terrific. I'm glad you got that shot you were after, and we all get to share it. Beautiful image.
