I'd prefer more DOF so that the pieces and the child/mom(i guess) are in focus. |

Nice composition and cropping, the folage in the background is realy white looking, is this IR? Nice touch! Speed chess can be played in the country but I see part of a building in the far background so I can see this photograph fits the challenge. I dont care for the focus being on the pieces insted of the player, but that is a personal preference. One of my top picks this week. |

good shot! excellent DOF. b&w works good. maybe a bit overexposured but this somehow creates a feeling as if this photo is a "dream" (also because of the soft light). because of the black dress and sunglasses of the woman, she is the "center of interest" in the photo. dunno if that was intended but guessing from the title i think not ;-) unfortunatley it doesn't speak to me on the matter of "city life". "day out"... is that in a garden somewhere outside the city where the stressed family relaxes? just guessing but i think the photo should tell me that... photo 9, creativity 8, city life 5 = 7 |

good high key .. like all the white and the mom in black is a terriffic contrast. |

Little bit of a stretch for "city life," but it's a nice photo. |

Great photo. Could use a tad more focus and I'd like a little more detail on the trees in the background...my 'baby' played outdoor chess this weekend too. 8 |

Interesing dof.. brings your attention to the chess set. I kinda like the overexposure. Only thing that bugs me is clipping off the tips of their heads. |

I'm not sure I see the city life in this. |

very nice photo, I really like how the b/w of the woman & boy's shirt match the chess pieces |

The execution on this photo is nice... I like that part quite a bit but it's not really relaying a 'city life' theme to me... The exposure in the background is a littel 'hot' as well... = 5 - jmsetzler |
