I had various ideas for this challenge... In the end, I went with this one, if only because I thought it was a fun idea (though perhaps others have done the same? We shall soon see, I guess).
It is a photograph of the text of what I decided seemed like the most appropriate definition for the word "shallow" in my copy of the Oxford English Dictionary, Second Edition, Compact Edition, published 1999. (This entry is in the middle column of the middle sub-page (page 157 of whatever volume) of page 1732 of the Compact Edition.)
It was taken with a Canon EOS 10D, with the 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens (at f2.8, and 1/125th of a second), with the aid of the MT-24EX Twin-Lite macro flash, set to manual mode, 1/64 exposure on each side, and aimed about 45 degrees up from the page, because otherwise it was just too much light for the narrow depth of field.
Post-processed using free tools (dcraw, NetPBM suite, and the GIMP) to crop slightly, scale, tweak the Value-mode "curves" slightly, and finally lose chroma. (Well, and then add EXIF data from the camera's thumbnail save, and a copyright notice.)
I gave a bit more effort to this challenge... hopefully it'll do better than the last one. (Still, its impact is limited, so I don't expect it to do wonderfully.)

6 - Good. Criticism; looks like it needs a slight nudge rotation up on the left, but apologies if wrong, may just be the perspective. A little sharper, while difficult, would also have made this even better in my opinion. Like the 'composition', but perhaps even more height (top/depth) may have also have given this something extra.
