This guy has had a broken bill for a long time. We don't know how it got that way, but he is quite "wacky" now. He can't eat by picking up things and has to be hand fed, but he is so nutz that hardly anyone will go near him. Ironically, he IS the largest duck in the pond, so he does eat well. LOL....

Wow, yeah ~ this is a great, unexpected subject! The composition is terrific. There's a kind of sad-but-hanging-on look in the eye, you know? Very interesting and loaded with implied narrative!

Very nice ~ and I agree: underrated.

For those wondering, this duck is just fine. He is the biggest duck in the pond, and is like the king duck there to the other ducks. He gets fed daily and all day people come sporatically to feed them all, including my own family.

His bill isn't completely gone. The bottom is in tact, and the top one is turned completely to one side. You just can't see it in this photo. I can't imagine how it happened, but I imagine it must have happened as a small baby when the bill was soft. He can eat fine, as long as he is left alone, but when there is a lot of competition, it is best he is fed by hand. I am sure he must get plenty of fish though, just for his pure size. You can always pick him out of the bunch.

Thank you "wackybill". I am glad you are flattered!

Not sure what to make of this, has this bird lost its bill? Raises many questions in my mind, finally a photo that makes me think and stare for a while.

Poor bird!!! The lighting seems just a touch harsh. I do like the use of negative space to draw attention to the bill.

Came back to bump this up to an eight. As disturbing as the image is, it is none-the-less dramatic. BOL

7 - Good. Good username capture, as difficult as this may have been. Colors are nice, especially in the eye. Criticism; difficult, as this is likely 'opportune', but a slightly different angle, gaining more 'wackybill', and even more detail on it, and that eye, may have made this even better in my opinion. Also 640 would have helped you. Fairly good control of the whites, especially with such a dark background and likely trying to 'tweak' that wackybill.
