| Everything looks sharp to me, so points lost for that. However, it's a beautiful picture and great lighting so I won't score low. Some will debate even though dof may be only a couple of inches, to me part of the photo should make it look like a wide aperture was used to make the sharp parts stand out. Here, just the black does that. (and the frame). |

| DOF is not very apparent in this picture. The high contrast between the background and the flower makes it look almost artificial. I think if a shadow would've been cast on the background as well or there was something to show that the background wasn't just a void of blackness, it would've helped it a bit. |

| I don't think this is a great example of shallow depth of field, but it is an exquisite photograph nonetheless. The lighting and composition are perfect. |

| The whole rose seems in focus to me - this is a wonderful picture, but I see it as more a great use of light/dark rather than focus/out of focus. |

| This is beautiful -- composition, light, setup, everything. However, I'm not sure the depth of field is shallow; the entire rose looks to be in focus, and the background is black. GORGEOUS image, but since it's a technical challenge I feel like I shouldn't give this the 9 or 10 it would otherwise deserve. 7. |
