A simple set-up using our only soft-toy, Tiggy, wearing my matching winter scarf and bonnet. Shot on tripod in natural light indoors (that is with half the shutters closed) to get a slightly under-exposed image. Cropped tighter. Photo-processing was mainly levels to get close to studio-like lighting. Then, it was back and forth between selective colour adjustments, luminosity and contrast to bring up the colours and lessen the grey tones. Used slight blur to soften a wee bit and did small bits of cloning.

This was a challenge for me as I’m not very comfortable with setting up shots (second attempt so far). Took about 60 shots with different light variations. Wanted to see if I could achieve or mimic clean lighting without any special lamps, bulbs, etc. If part of voting criteria was to have fun, well, I sure did but hope I’ll get some constructive critique too.

I'd like this better if it stood out more from the background. Focus also seems a little soft.

Seems a touch overexposed even on my home LCD

Cute. Although it looks like you focused on the present with a shallow DOF, so the face is a little OOF. Either use a deeper DOF or focus in on the eyes, as is usually done with portraits.

Cute idea but just a bit too close up.

Well, this was a good attempt, but the focus is a little out of whack and the background should be something other than white.

I like the wrapped gift; that's a nice touch. But the whites are a bit overexposed, and you lost some detail because of it.
