I had to come back and comment on this one! I gave you a 10 and picked this as a fav. I am going to tell you why. I think that this is soooooo good. I was surpised that it did not ribbon. Who would have thought to do that? Who would have thought to use forks as shoes? You are a genius! I applaud your creativity. This shot is VERY well composed and thought out. The toe rings and other feet adornments are wonderful. Her toes could have been painted a little neater though. LOL I really really love this photograph. I wish that I would have thought of this. I think that the quality of the photograph is superb as well....you ROCK!! |

from the cupboard under the stairs of the Critique Club
It interest me greatly here that the actual subject of the photograph, in an obviously controlled environment, becomes the central interest of people's ocmments and ratings. Obviously, that's inevitable in a challenge such as this one - but actually, is it about photography? I think not - it's more about some kind of suclpture, I think, about the creation of a record of an odd set-up, and the photography simply becomes a process of recording that avoiding some pitfalls of exposure and detail etc. To my view, anyone with reasonable experience, facilities, and practice should be able to do this.
So, your photograph is actually about your set-up, yes? And here, I think your notes say it all - 'an on-going study of feet': and it's the feet that so dominate the image that I think this has hurt your score. The forks are quite clearly essential, but then you scored pretty well, so not everyone thought that was an issue.
Now, having given you my opinion of this kind of stuff, I have to say that this is possibly the most interesting shot of its type in that challenge. I do agree with one point made about the 'feel' of the image. I think that's to do with the skin-tones of the feet themselves - they have a slight blue-ish cast that makes them look cold. A slight change of colour temperature, or perhaps simply a warmer light might have helped there.
I also think that some people find feet generally an unappealing subject, and that will have taken a vote or two away from you.

Now, here is an image whose placement I highly question. It should have finished in the top five. It is a creative and clever composition and very well executed. One can not just look at the image and forget it. If I were forced to give one honorable mention it would be this image.
Congratulations on your top 20 finish. Smashing work. |

What a presentation! Even the nail polish color blends in good with the composition. A most enjoyable image. |

Cool, creative and clever. If this had been cropped in a bit tighter from the sides to make it more of a vertical shot, I probably would have scored it higher. |

7 - Very creative and if this is original, very well done. Criticism; difficult, I do like this but think that it has more potential than you have captured, but no idea how to do so. Perhaps a toning or even b/w (despite losing the color in the 'accessories'), may have made this even better in my opinion. The 'mottled' flesh/skin (especially at the top) perhaps detracts slightly too, but minor. Just noticed, either this person has a little toe missing on their left foot or another shoot to include it was needed. |
