 Yup the ant is dead. I found it on the hood of my car. Placed it on a flower under my banker's lamp. The center of the flower is actually yellow, and the detail in the wings was yellowish too. I changed the color to red to add some drama (hue/saturation in PS7).

Hairy little butt. lol.


Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX Macro lens. Tripod, miror lock-up, and remote shutter release.

Dead bug and bloom - so no struggle with the focus then?! Could have improved the angle of this shot to achieve some DOF on petals and get more detail from centre. [4]

Best macro I've seen so far. I was waiting for 30 of these this challenge. Nice job with this one. Strange the insect has no yellow on him.

WOW - this is an exquisite macro. Hope you get a ribbon for this. Love the way the colour of the bugs wings match the bloom. Also fits the challenge nicely - 9

The reds in the wings match well to the flower. Some good detail here however the shallow DOF has blurred some of the red part of the flower. I would have rater seen the whole red part in focus - 9.

Great composition. I like how the bug's wings match the red in the flower, broken up by the contrasting body. Thorax? Whatever... And the dof is nice, too. The frame may be a bit much, but a very good shot nonetheless.

The only thing that might make this photo better is to get rid of the extra space at the top of this shot. Good focus good light=7 Kevin

So, despite this being a bug & bloom shot, you've made it into my top 5 ;) Actually, I've been known to like bugs & blooms. You met the challenge (twice). I love that you've only included a quarter of the flower, that the white petals blur a bit towards the background and that your bug has red wings to match the flower!!! Plus, the sharpness and focus is tack-on. Border and background both compliment the shot nicely. Nothing I would change, a shot I would've been proud to take. :)

Too much space above the bug. Why not just a tight crop oon the bug? Neat shot.

Oh WOW! I must admit that I've been tiring of the flower and bug shots, but this one REALLY caught my attention. It is wonderfully done, not to mention interesting. The red is so intense. I assume you desaturated the colors except for the red channels. It really works here. I love the detail. Excellent work 10+ My favorite for the week.
