I was out taking shots of the Finnieston Crane for this challenge and couldnt get a decent crop because of the construction of the new Clyde Bridge in theforeground...so just incorporated the two.

Lighting is good, but if you were really just trying to highlight the pulley, then I would say zoom and swivel a bit in order to get just the front of pulley and chains in sharp focus. Use a DOF that would blur the rest of the machinery which is a bit distracting.

Great focus. I like the green and orange against the gray metal of the crane/bridge. Nice DOF.

Would like to have seen less DOF.

7 - Like this. Good colors and good background. Criticism; difficult, especially seeing as this was likely quite some distance from you, but like to see those colors even more vivid. Perhaps an attempt at desaturation, not sure, as the sky is a nice 'contrasting color' too. More detail also, especially in the pulley and chains (again difficult from this distance), and a greater depth of field (also difficult I imagine), would have made this even better in my opinion. Maybe a slightly different crop, especially to 'minimize' that 'rod'/whatever it is on the right there may also have helped.

I think this would have been better if you had concentrated more on your subject, a much tighter view would have worked here.
