 At night, when you're driving along I-90 past Gary, Indiana, you can see giant towers in the distance with enormous blue flames leaping from them. The flames appear to be about 3 stories tall, like something out of a scene from The Road Warrior. The "Industrial" challenge gave me the motivation to finally get a closer look at these giant industrial complexes. Kapan and I drove to Gary / East Chicago during the day to scope things out and to see just how close we could get to the action, then returned at night for the photoshoot. I didn't end up getting any good flaming-tower photos, but I think this one turned out pretty good.
Kapan also got some cool shots using her little Canon Powershot!

Post processing: convert from RAW, rotate, crop, levels, image size, unsharp mask, save for web.

I traveled that route MANY times at night between home in Chicago and Purdue University. The first thing I thought about was Gary, IN when this challenge was announced. Glad you got the shot (and a top 10!). Shame you missed the flames out of the smoke stacks though, it really is a sight to see. Congrats!

I admire the green tone of this photo. Green is my favorite color and in this image it has an amuzement park feeling to it. Green is color of nature and makes this industrial "monster" look friendly. I also like the consistency of color in this photo because there are no competing colors. Perhaps the story of this picture is that industry polutes the environment but also ensures society's prosperity.

Great shot! Like the predominant "green". Great focus up front and great movement on the clouds overhead.

Great! Nice color from lights. Good shadow contrast Steamy clouds in backbground works well. Very nice layout. Overall, excellent!! "10"

I like the overall industrial feeling to this and the green-like tone. The weakest area in the bottom left (fence) which is a bit diificult to crop out, though I like this image.
