Thanks for both previous posts. This isn't a challenge shot, so I did what I wanted with it. I used PS to work with the background. The original had too much clutter in the background, so I created a second layer and blurred it out pretty completely. The next step was to select the eraser and take away the part of the blurred layer that I wanted the bottom (clear) layer to show through. I was pleased that the affect actually looked good.

This IS a wonderful portrait. It isn't a really tight crop, but with the girl and the kitty, it works superbly. The overall feel of it is warm and fuzzy, yet it isn't cheesy in the least. I like the DOF and the lighting is very nicely executed. |
