Sam your snowman makes me smile, your daddy and mommy must be very proud of you. I'd love to be in Grand Falls playing in the snow with you, I'm sure you have a lot more snow today. Brenda from Caswell, Maine, now living in Arizona.

i liked the finger in the photo(i gave this a 10) because it gave the photo a for real feel-you know that a human took this photo-only critique i have is that the snowman was crooked and i think the snowman should be fired as a model for such a poor display.

this is a joke, right?

Hmm... finger in the way, crooked, reflection in window - no, what really causes this photo to score low is the fact that the snowman is missing an eye, not to mention arms!

Well, I'm sure you know the finger doesn't help much. :-)

I wonder if you went for the brown ribbon in this challenge?
I recon you are going to get it.
There is so much wrong with this picture that it makes it great.
Good luck i hope you get the score you were after

iknow that youre going to be getting a lot ofcooments exactly like this....but here goes anyway.
First off there is a finger in the photo...honestly you could have seen what the picture loooked like then taken another one.
Second the picture is crooked.. this is a big nono, and evn if this was the desired affect it really doesnt add that much to the photo.
Last but not least it seems like this photo was taken throgh a window. This is fine aslong as you take the photo at an angle, so there is no reflection.
Overall it seems lik eyou could have spent more time setting up this shot.

Tilted horizon, blurred object in lower left corner . . . . . . . I think you need to give more thought to composition - I really don't know what your subject is - the snowman (falling off the frame at this angle), the house across the street. When shooting for competition think carefully about what your subject is . . . . then compose your shot to showcase that subject.

You should have at least cropped out the ugly smudge.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
11/13/2005 12:01:58 PM
Watch out for fingers (or other things that can get in front of the lens). It's good that the snowman is not in the center of the shot--that helps add interest. Try to keep the horizon line, in this case the street, level. That is quite a snowman since it doesn't look like there was a lot of snow to work with!

brillant use of color! Artisticly tilting the camera was a good idea!! The use of the finger on the lens is simply awesome!!! An overall wonderful picture....you should be proud!!!

Terrible photo, finger over the lens, are you trying to get a low score on purpose?

Finger!? Not really a landscape...

11/11/2005 01:57:24 AM
This photo looks like a snapshot to me and not a good photograph. Did you choose the diagonal line of the street on purpose? And is it a finger covering the lens at the left?

Crooked + blurry + through a window (?) + a big thumb (or other thing?) = not a very high score

11/10/2005 10:20:43 AM
You should crop out such finger overlaps. Try harder to submit something others could enjoy.

WTF ?

11/10/2005 02:18:07 AM
? was the finger in there intentionally?
  Photographer found comment helpful.
11/09/2005 10:10:17 PM
Must I comment? OK - I recognise the snowman, but can't figure out what that is on the left of the shot.... could it be a finger ... in front of the shutter?
  Photographer found comment helpful.
11/09/2005 05:52:55 PM
Personally I would have voted higher without the possible finger on the left side.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
11/09/2005 04:40:47 PM
you could have at least cropped out whatever is blocking the left side(finger? thumb?)...plus, that's not what most would consider a "landscape"

11/09/2005 04:18:14 PM
It doesn't look like you put a lot of thought into this, maybe I am wrong but it looks like a snap you took quickly looking out your door. Maybe its the angle and the blurry image in the corner, sorry but it doesn't work for me.

Nice fingerscape. Where's the snow, man? Why isn't there a car in the driveway?

Buddy, you gotta watch that thumb on the lens. :) Very nice first entry.

ummm doesnt really show the land. And i know you have seen this but umm the finger is in the lense.

11/09/2005 02:57:31 PM
Well.. I actually like collecting weird photos like this, I have to try hard to give it a 4 just because. The thumb is a bonus!

Unfortunately the finger in the lens and blurriness make this a poor photo, in my opinion.

This is soooo on purpose. Have fun reading the self-righteous comments critiquing this picture. I'll give you a 1, cuz I know that's what you're going for. Well done in the bizarro world.

11/09/2005 07:50:03 AM
This image is one that I'll go out on a limb for. I love the angle and the finger in the way...they add some "character" to the shot. The snowman, missing one eye, symbolizes a lot about how we don't see things clearly and as they really are. The monochrome grass/road/sky add to the cold, empty feeling...as if the snowman were truly alone in the world. Very raw, emotive, and remote image. 10.

Would have been better had finger been cropped out

I'm not sure about this photo as a landscape...
  Photographer found comment helpful.
11/09/2005 05:55:51 AM
I don't see the landscape - plus the thumb and angle don't work for me.

Is this a deliberate try for the brown? If this is a child, I am sorry!

Beautiful finger, but doesn't fit the challenge.

11/09/2005 01:21:48 AM
I'm not sure, but I think the camera is not perfectly horizontal.

11/09/2005 12:30:24 AM
Try to keep your camera level and watch out where you put your fingers.
Your idea for using "Snow" was a good one and the snowman helped get the idea there even if there wasn't much snow left on the ground. Keep trying hard.
