Lots of people asked for directions on how to do my self portrait:
I set up my cam on a tripod within arms reach. Then I put a red light bulb in my desk lamp. I put the lamp almost in my lap and the cam right behind it.
Set the cam to manual: 4 seconds, f7.1 aperture, 100 ISO, then I
1. Set the timer. Popped up the flash.
2. Half pushed the button to focus with the red light on.
3. Turned the red light off.
4. Pushed the button.
5. As soon as it flashed, I turned the red light on with my left hand and moved slightly to the left with my eyes closed, then opened them. (for the last 3.8 seconds or so)
That's pretty much it. The original with exif is //www.pbase.com/image/18252879&exif=Y\ |

Hey. This was an awesome effect. I'd love to know how you managed to capture this with our camera. please pm me with precise details if your willing. I thought this was going to do much better. It definetely deserved to do better than mine, which was blurry and gross. I love the concept of the duality of self. Hows yer country farin'? |

I guess no one DID get this picture. *sigh*
Looking at this reminds me of what Setz wrote in his photographer notes for his self portrait... sometimes its just a damn interesting picture butr its not stock photography. This is a cool technique that you've managed to get a handle on and I like the message this image conveys. Good shot and be proud! |

This is great! The sharpness of the left face and the softness of the right are great counterpoints to each other. Very ghostly and ominous. |

I really lie how this pic goes with its title. The face on the right really looks like a projection the way the blur radiates out from and become slightly larger than the crisp portrait on the left. It has a nice ghostly quality while remaining clear enough to see details of eyes and mouth etc. Very creative and skillful. 9 |

I'm just wonderinf if you got this idea from the movie "Contact". There's a scene in there where Jodie Foster has the exact same effect. Haunting and ethereal, this is one of the better shots for this challenge. Well done |

Hmm do I know you? lol The shadowing trail is a cool effect. I like how you went for the "all black" look, it just really makes this image work. In a way tis photo reminds me of a movie, like ghost or something, as it does have a ghostly feel, but it works. Well done, and good luck. |

I like the message beneath the photo...the idea that the image that you project is different that the real you. The photo has a great sense of flow. |

Very good, I like the ethereal effect. Maybe slightly too much cropping to lose the top of the head though? |
