This is the same principle as the flip box. For those who are not familiar please check my mentor double exposure for details.

Here we needed sharpness in the deliniation of the oval, so the regular flip box won't do, but the principle is the same. here is how it is done: You add hinges to the mask, which is solid black excepting the oval. You place this upright about five feet from the camera. You then put the oval in the exact opening of the mask. You flip down the mask and you are left with a standing oval supported by a wood dowel inserted into wood. You get behind the oval and you shoot. This exposes the outside of the head and the chess board. You now remove the oval and lift up the mask. The apple is already affixed to another wood dowel. You get out of the way and shoot again. The lighting, as you may have guessed is behind the mask prop and simple side lighting is used so as to avoid spill into the mask and oval. Simple.

i swear this was done with mirrors, yet still scored it highly.
my thinking was an oval mirror with an apple affixed, worn like a mask - the subject was then also standing in front of a mirror. the chess board was in front of both mirrors. what i coudn't figure was how the camera was hidden from the reflection, and obviously it wasn't ;}

Nicely executed illusion!...do I spot a graphicfunk?

A clever idea, but it just doesn't do anything much for me. Perhaps the whole shot is a little flat, that might be what is making me so wishy-washy about it.

Ya, ok, you can just take your ribbon home now...I'm gonna ponder the technique in this one for a while. I'll figure it out eventually. ;) 10 Is this a graphicfunk?
Finally figured it out...the center is not the mirror, the outside is...

Nice homage to my favorite artist. I'm curious about the number 46 written on the green diaganol just to the left of the apple though. Creatively thought out and executed. Good luck in the challenge.
