I was in Seattle at Pike's Market when I saw this guy. He was standing at a corner just waving at passers-by and asking them for a smile. I still can't forget the bewildered look on the people as he asked them for a smile. He never did ask for any money. All he wanted was for someone to smile at him... which got me thinking. Why is it that whenever we see a homeless person on the side of the street, we always look the other way and sometimes, we dont even acknowlege that they are there? And all this guy wanted was for someone to smile - maybe his way of telling people "I'm not going to do what you probably think I will".

You are really great at candids, Rikki. Excellent capture, and story around it. I also see the face as a bit too red. Perhaps a little color adjustment, adding some cyan or blue, would help?

Great shot & story... Would love to know what the reflection in his glasses is. Very grounding photo.

Wow! I'm sorry I missed this one Rikki!

Great story, and the pic just adds to it! heh

Everyday on my way to work, I'd pass by the same (homeless) man. He'd always sit in the same spot. Laying next to him was his dog, often covered with a blanket to keep him warm, especially during those cold Canadian winters. He'd always have a big smile on his face and never failed to say good morning, even to those who looked the other way while walking past. Often, I'd stop and talk to him and have a smoke while I waited for my bus. Soon the day came when that same spot was empty. My morning commute to work was filled with the hope that I'd again find him sitting in that same spot, only to find it empty once again. I'm sure wherever he is now that he's still smiling and saying good morning.

It's the simple things in life. Next time you see someone, smile and say good morning. You'll never know how good you'll make someone else feel. :)

Good Morning! :)

George

As already said, the story completes the picture. It adds the context to the picture.

Again, your story telling continues. I love it. He's got that little smirk on his face that just wants to make you smile as well. Great portrait and candid image!

Hehe...this dude looks cool! A great little story to go with the pic too! Just looks a little reddish through the skin tone. Been trying like buggery to work out what the reflection is in his glasses too! Great candid shot mate!
