Difficult shot with a semi-mobile baby and very crappy lighting. I originally had him "sitting", but since he still requires some assistance, I opted to have him on his stomach. The fake snow cotton batting has come in very handy while photographing my favorite subject. I have to get better lighting!
Post-processing was a few adjustment layers to "lighten" the image. The normal stuff, levels, hue/saturation, selective color adjustment layer (applied to the entire image equally of course), brightness. It was interesting, the more I adjusted, the more I noticed that his eyes didn't change in proportion with the adjustment. The final result was that they literally popped out of the photo at me... Hence the title. I'm pretty happy with this one, but then again, it's yet another "cute baby image" so it'll probably get shot down. Oh well, as a proud new papa, I can't resist putting my little booger out there. Enjoy! |

Here's my take on this image (of course take it for what it is). The "Cute" photo is a bit soft. The eyes are amazingly rich and wonderfully rendered. While the aim of this challenge is to provide a Light on White, I think you've exceeded it just a tad and as a result, had almost blown out some finer details. I think if you used curves then this image would pop. As it is, it's simple and meets the challenge. I would probably just prefer a bit more DOF. |

Ok, here's my takeaway from Light on White. The winners were not scared of using black. They did not boost their levels to make the picture whiter than it already was. It was already white to begin with. Your baby, and my rock salt, used the second technique, and I think this was what the voters did not like.
I'd also go for more DOF. I'm not a good portrait artist, but I tend to like the whole subject in focus. His feet get lost and the diaper blurs with the background.
Take it all with a grain of salt since I finished, what, about 10 spots higher than you? |

The poor little guy is purple. I suspect there was a-little too much color balance adjusting |

beautiful baby, gorgeous eyes, my only gripe is the purplish tint from either the lighting or processing |

I would have liked more shadows in this picture, perhaps less lighting. |

Look at those blue eyes!! The lighting is a bit harsh. Was this an on-board camera flash? Still I like the skin texture and those blue eyes. 6 |

First off I like the photo but in my opinion I think the flash is a little harsh |

I don't like the effect of the lighting or post processing on his/her skin. Pretty blue eyes though. |
