That's just plain weird. But I'm guessing there's a really good photo hiding in there, without the grain! (And a bit of cropping from the left would also help) |

6 - Good shot, excellent colors and good use of 'selective effects'(?) for this Challenge. I am still learning what is 'allowed' in advanced editing (excuse me), but will vote this as if 'legal' (won't be me making any dq requests). The more I look at this, I realize that it is the vivid colors and 'popness' of the flowers that appeals so much, the 'effect' on the bee is good, but doesn't 'dominate' here. Criticism; 'somehow' would like to have seen a greater 'use' of the grain/noise to create an 'illusion' or 'surreal' effect. Had this at 8 at first glance, but down to 7 based on the above, reinforced by the fact that "image grain or "noise" is an integral part of the message of your photo", has not been fully achieved in this shot, in my opinion. Creative idea, I just think it has/had more potential, primarily with the bee 'dominating' rather than the flowers/colors. 3rd view: taking down to 6 based primarily on lack of grain and seemingly pure 'pp' noise effects, which again, may have had more potential. Tough call on this shot re the Challenge, in my opinion. |

As I look at this image, I can't help but wonder if the noise on the bee is masking a poor focus or not. For me, the photos that have applied a pertial grain effect have scored a little lower because it has the feeling of being more of a digital art than a photo. JMO. |

selective grain on the bee only ? that is quiet artificial looking |

Great photo, but the editting doesn't really work for me. |

The overall effect is nice, although the grain does not ad as much as the rest of the process that gave this picture its earthy tonality. The only change I would make is t ensure that the grain was the same colour as its surrounding environment. That is the problem of digital grain that is not present in film grain. |

It may be sofisticated technically, but the bee simply does not belong here. The rest of picture is too clean and clear. Grain is not working positively. |

I would think if an image has grain, it applies to the whole image, not just a small portion of it. This is an interesting capture without a doubt and the processing has made the colors really pop out. The clarity is very nice on the flowers. And that is the problem. Only the bee has any blur and even that seems wrong. It should be motion blur on the bee not image blur. And if that processing was applied to the whole imaeg it would meet the challenge in my opinion. |

ROFL _ you clever devil you. that's pretty smart of you to take that approach, but I'm afraid that the description said grain/noise. Hmmmmm Well, it's a great capture nonetheless. |
