 Well I was stumped and I had to go to the backup plan. I wanted to do this with a leaf instead of a flower net but I could not get the water to stay in any of the wholes on the leaf. And then it took forever to get any pattern of water drops to stay on the net! Yeesh! I did a manual focus on this with the camera in macro mode and a 10x close up filter. I liked the detail and that each of the reflections of the rover mum is a bit different from each of the others. The set up was the same as Net Shot Gerbera X except I used a different set of box tops, the others having met their maker, and I added two more clamp lamps for a total of 4, each with a 100w halogen bulb.

This is second version of Rover Net. I unsubmitted the first as there was a haze on water and the reflections. I also did not like the white balance, the dark green background came out blue! I re-shot it, got a different pattern and reflections which I liked even more than the first and the yellow background brightens it up a bit.

And a shooting note: I did not like the angle I was getting with the camera attached to the tripod. In both versions that turn out the best, I used manual focus, as noted, but held the camera on top of the tripod to steady it. It gave me some more freedom to angle to get a better shot of the reflections.

Post: Layer adjustments for levels, brightness/contrast and hue/saturation, all 75% opacity. USM. Crop. Resize. USM.




Post challenge: I'm getting a consensus opinion that these are refractions...hmmm....two things come to mind: Can you have a refraction without a reflection? Could this be a Total Internal Reflection? Not a physicist, scientist, or any other ist to know, so I'm lost...whooosh...over my head and beyond my ken...so discuss amongst yourselves! LOL!

BTW...I had a few back up water reflections from the canals in New Hope I guess I could have used but did not process....the light was iffy when I took many of them. Of course the day the voting started I took this:

like i said before. it's a great shot. really caught my eye. i just don't think it meets the challenge.

you probably have a reflection there, but in this case it is not visible from where you stood with your camera.

a variation on the water-drops-on-glass shot. i really like this interpretation a LOT. much more interesting than those overshot water drops! love the colors in this photo as well. beautiful, and nicely done.

A lot more to this one than meets the eye. Curious if you saw this in your mind's eye first and then set it up (super creative if you did) or saw it and took the shot (incredible eye if you did). Either way, my hat's off to you.

This is just heartwarming. Great interpretation. Though I'd be interested inn knowing exactly what that plastic mesh is and if you're either using some sort of liquid in between or a glue/plastic composite.

Reflection or refraction?
As I see it, flower (A) is behind water drops (B), thus making drops tiny lens refracting the image of the flower. If otherwise, I owe you a lot better score.

WOW! Awesome image! As it seems to be a refraction rather than a reflection it does not meet the challenge but it still get's a 6 for coolness.
