 I think I outsmarted myself again! I do believe that this image requires a second look. Oh, well. Thanks to those that got it.

This is how it was done: you set up the candle on wire against a black backdrop. The flash will be fired twice manualy. First shot you fire the strobe and then cover lens cap. Then you rotate camera 180 degrees remove cap and fire strobe and place cap on again while the 20 second exposure expires. Of course, a gadget was made to allow the rotation of the camera to capture the second image upside down. This was simply placing camera inside a box, making a hole in center for lens and then wedging the camera. Many will miss that the flames are pointed and two candles one up and one will have one flame pointed and one sweeping along the side of the candle.

Thank you for always explaining your shots so well, it has been an inspiration to play. And thanks for the kind comments on my double-exposure in the Fantasy challenge. It meant the world coming from the expert. :)

Thanks for the explanation!! I immediantly saw that the "upside" down candle couldn't really be upside down as the flame was wrong, but couldn't figure out how you turned the camera upside down without getting any blur effect. Really think this deserved much higher. Great job.
