 I took this photo and got a lot of "what is that?" so i figured it would be appropriate for this challenge, it was taken in my backyard and its actually the base of our banana tree where all the dead branches fall off.

Is this a banana tree? I love guessing what some of the images are. I think you added to the mystery by making it B&W. Lots of texture, but something just doesn't jive with me. Maybe an even closer zoom would work better.
