This could have worked if you shot if from a different angle making his head even bigger. Shallower depth of filed would have nicely separated him from the busy background.

Good fun spirit, but don't seem like a wide angle shoot. Not because of the theme, but because of perspective. In wide angle shoot s the background should contain a lot more things in a smaller porportion wuth the main/closer subject. Hope it helps.
