Challenge: Magazine Cover (Classic Editing)
Camera: Sony Mavica FD-83
Location: Lubbock, TX our front yard
Date: Jun 10, 2003
Date Uploaded: Jun 10, 2003

This picture was taken of a Tea Rose grown in our own garden. We placed the rose in our front yard next to our Vinca ground cover under shade created by our Fruitless Mulberry. The light shining through the leaves of the tree provided a spot light of sorts and created the wonderful lighting effect. The only editing done to this picture was croping and auto levels in photoshop.

Excellent focus and clarity. I also like your attempt at dramatic lighting, but I find it to be a little bit too harsh. Also, the dark shadow of another plant in the lower right hand corner, as well as, another object in the upper right hand corner are distracting.

Personally I do not consider magazines to be in a horizontal shape... thats just me though. Some very uneven lighting here... some of the rose looks too bright and some of it looks too dark. Maybe that was what you were going for? The shadows and part of the background are somewhat distracting, but not too bad. I'm thinking type for the magazine might go directly over the top of some of the main part of the flower.Nice job with your focus though and getting most of the flower in focus, sometimes with macro thats hard to do.

Needs more depth of field, and more lighting control. Also dont like the horizontal format in this challenge

Lighting is quite bright to the bottom right of this rose. The shadow under the rose is also very distracting. Pretty colors.

Nice picture. dunno how it would look cropped for a magazine cover though.

Ack it's too dark. English garden should be a shot of green, misty, estate, not of a wilted rose with a black background. :(

This is a beautiful image, but I believe "The English Garden" would have used a perfect example rather than the one shown here. 6 Jak
