my first challenge entry!

setup: outdoor night shot. suspended vodka bottle above tray of water, spritzed bottle with water, poured some kerosine in the tray and lit it. repeated 300 times. surprised my neighbours didn't call the fire department! back-lit from rear left using a slave flash.

cropped, adjusted levels, applied usm, resized.

i'd also like to give a shout-out to the hairs on my arms that sacrificed themselves for this noble project...

Beginners luck? Just kidding. Great placement for your first challenge. This was one of my top picks and I gave it a 9. Congratulations on your 7th place.

thanks, everyone, for taking the time to comment on this photo; i'm quite pleased that my first entry did as well as this.

for those interested, i used about a tablespoon of kerosine poured on water to create the flames; it burned out in about three seconds, so the bottle never even warmed up.

Well done for a first challenge! It's really quite a shot. Don't know how I could have missed it during voting.

Great shot! U should have cropped the left side and avoided the white smoke..

Was this taken in one shot? Pretty dangerous, no?

I like the imagery, but to me the smoke seems to take away from the shot. If there is some someway for you get that big puff of smoke from the upper left corner I would like it even more.

Ya, this is damn cool...or hot. Wait, the fire is out of focus. Naw, I have to give it a 10...even though I've tasted pepper vodka and don't like it a bit.
