I had always meant to rework a DA I did in 2004. I shot the base image at Union College in Schenectady, NY early one morning while waiting for breakfast (in NY singing with Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia in a performance of the Beethoven 9th at Saratoga Springs). The angle of the shot was happenstance as the gate of the garden was locked. I anchored the camera on the gate and shot.
The original DA came out OK and did well: Early on, however, in showing at another site, someone pointed out the mystery chair legs. I had lost the top of the chair in cropping and the legs still in the shot just did not make sense. There were also some problems with the slate colors...at least one slate rectangle was tri-colored so I worked on that as well. Here is the original DA showing the areas to be reworked:
So I re-worked it and the new version won on a site. I thought it would be nice to have a print of the new one. In looking over the reworked DA I made two further adjustments: part of the mystery chair was still making a bump along the round edge of the table at the top left and I filled in the holes in the table where the chair was with a lighter color.
The biggest faux pas? I mistakenly titled the original 'Mrs. Pearce's Garden'! I forgot if it was Pearce or Pierce when I re-entered the image. When I looked it up on the Union College web site, I found that it was Perkins. So the new title.
