COMPOSITION
I don't see a sand dollar, and what I do see is a bit hard to distinguish. It looks like beach clutter - seaweed, etc. It's certainly not a very attractive or eye-catching composition. I don't have any clue what you were aiming for other than your title, and it's difficult to see the concept of friendship arising from this pic.
TECHNIQUE
The only thing I can really say is that it looks woefully over sharpened. I also can't think of any reason to shoot at f/32 with a .7 second shutter on a sunlit day.
OVERALL IMPACT
I have to assume you were aiming for a low score here, as there is absolutely nothing in this shot that could be construed as attractive or pleasing to the average viewer. The voters obviously agreed, giving it only a 3.6 total score. In my experience at DPC, sub-4.0 scores are reserved for those photos that come close to repulsing voters. Looking over your other challenge entries, I conclude you were aiming for something other than a crowd pleaser.

It's a very interesting shot, but the subject seems a bit "unattractive" to give to someone as a greeting card? |

I don't see the greeting card connection here, nor can I really see what the subject matter is. (Beach debris?) Seems too over-sharpened also. |

What is this? Other then the fact I do not see this as a greeting card, what is in the pile? Looks like garbage? Help me here. |

I am not quite sure what you are showing me here. Interesting though. |

Ok, I looked up the sand dollar legend, but I don't see a sand dollar here. In fact I'm not really sure what I see. I think that's a shell in the lower right corner, and I think the black areas are sand. I just really can't tell. |

This looks over processed to me, and I don't see a sand dollar. |

For me, the high contrast makes it difficult to distinguish the objects in the photo (I can't see the sand dollar). My usual dsclaimer is that this is my opinion and many people enjoy very high contrast photos. The composition is good though. |
