Taken in my Grandmother's yard. She has a line of beautiful yellow fall crocus that always appears very rapidly and blooms profusely. They're truly magnificent. I must add that she also decided to surround them this year with an absolutely awful white wire low-to-the-ground fence that the entire family abhors (but that she seems to feel is attractive and is probably another story in and of itself entirely), so that I wouldn't "mow" over them and chop them off - not that I would ever possibly do that. I have a little more respect and appreciation for beauty and other people's property/investments than that! One day maybe she'll understand, but I doubt it... ;-)

[I'm not ragging on my Grandma - she's wonderful and I wouldn't trade anything for her company and generosity - I just had to mention the difference of opinion that she and I have with regard to "tacky" and "tasteful" displays. I'm currently living with her and I think it's actually been good for both of us overall!]

That being said, she has a wonderfully green thumb and I love her to death. She and I have become very close over the last year as Grandpa's health failed and he passed away, and I honestly think that we're not only family, but that we're now very close friends - and that's VERY nice to have.

So, I love you Grandma and here's hoping that your crocuses score well! ROFL

:-)

Not sure that the B/W does them true justice (as they exhibit beautiful yellow tones), but I do think the B/W shows off more detail and augments the "rule of thirds" composition more than the color shots of the flowers did.

This works surprisingly well in BW. Great focus and detail and perfect exposure. I don't know why it didn't do better in this challenge.

This should have done better. I think it looks good in B&W.

Ooohhh!! Underrated! Maybe the voters didn't see how this photo related to the rule of thirds?? Anyway, nice shot!

this looks over prosessed to me like there was to much neat image or USM applied..to smooth and there are some odd artifacts floating around at the eadges of the flowers...otherwise pretty shot.

I like the black and white choice here. The flowers are nice and sharply focused.

Good luck

Very striking and not the typical single stem poking up against a solid background. The contrast is great. You might even could up it a bit more. Also, you might try taking the single color selector and taking all of the black out of the white. Those flowers might really have some pizzaz then. I like the stamens being so visible and the bud in the lower part. Very nice overall -- perfect use of black and white.
