I must agree with "Koriyama": I really loved this photo, thinking that the model had to pose, while the shot had to have much forced perspective, and the lighting would be just right. I was, indeed, concerned that anybody could do all this in a single shot with minimal computer-editing. Learning how you achieved your results, I'm relieved, but confused as to how this shot was captured in adherence to this site's rules. |

Sorry for spoiling the party here, but having read the description of how the shot was made, I'm disappointed. For me (and this is important), DPC is about the single shot development, not using the computer as a backdrop and using multiple images.
I gave a 10 during the challenge thinking 'wow, the set up must have been fantastic'. Now, I still enjoy the photo on its own merits, but I would rather not see it winning.
I do think that your other stuff is really great and that you are truly a fantastic photographer.

Thanks so much everyone for your comments and votes! It was a very tight race and I'm elated that I ended up Blue :D **happy dance**
For those of you who pointed out the mouth/nose area, yeah... it's just an unfortunate angle.. yeah, I'd do it again differently. Then again, maybe I wouldn't.. I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this shot :)
I was joking to friends this week that if I got a 4th ribbon I could retire from here very happily, and I might just do that for a while. It's been fun and I've learned so much here!!!

Excellent! This is exactly what I wanted to do for Bubbles -- put someone in a bubble using the monitor trick. In the end, I didn't do a shot for the challenge because I've not wanted to spend time specifically on challenges (though I did go outside and try some big bubbles and shooting them for fun, and almost used one of those).
But I'm glad I didn't because this would have blown mine away. It's not enough to put someone in the bubble--this works so well because of your excellent shot in the bubble! Congratulations. |

IMO, the winner of this challenge. That said, there isa little darkness on her upper lip that made me double-take. Probably the only way to fix it would be a spot edit, which of course would cost you. Great photo |

The circumstances are that this poor model must have had to pose for a quite a long time to get this shot to appear like it is here. Not an easy feat since I can see that she is crouching there in a corner. Her hands are perfectly positioned to make it appear as if she is pressing on the bubble. And she seems to be looking right at the straw that created this bubble. I would love to learn how you accomplished this shot - at first glance I thought it can't be a straight photo but I see that this has been validated. Whew, this must have taken alot of positioning, planning, and timing....Technically everything is perfect. My only two nits about the shot is the colors - the purplish-blues are fine and add to the mood of "being blue or caught in a prision" but there is little too much of an orange cast on the person's hand and arm that is holding the bubble that clashes with those purple and blue hues. A warm hue can mix with a cool hue effectively but in this shot it just pop out to much that they are competing with one another instead of complementing. The other critique is that I would have shown the full hand and less of the arm - as that it is the hand that holds this woman's "prision" it should be more in the shot.
Nonetheless, great job. |
