Let's see, what can I tell you.

Yes, that's the angle and distance I took the photo from. I adjusted contrast/brightness, but there's no crop.

Yes, those are my fingers.

Yes, I'm playing the title piece (first movement).

Yes, I really, really wish I had a better camera so I could have gotten a lot more finger motion.

Yes, I took a LOT of shots to get the one I liked. The one with the best hand motion was way too dark and noise reduction didn't help it enough, so I went with this version instead.

Yes, I really wish I had a real piano. That's a keyboard.

I just want to thank folks that took the time to comment.

The dimness was partially intentional (the title of the photo and the song alike) but the degree was imposed by the camera as there's no way for me to manually adjust shutter speed. I did miss this had visible non-intentional blur -- I was looking at the fingers and less at the keys -- and probably shouldn't have. Alas. Also I probably should give up on this type of shot til I have a better camera, although I thought I'd done a LITTLE better job of capturing it than I ultimately did.

The angle was the one I liked best -- I thought it was more interesting than the straight-on ones -- but I probably would have been better off with the straight-on ones as those involved the camera on a solid surface.

I did have one with blue keys but the resulting noise was intolerable and couldn't be cleaned up, alas.

Well, I'll keep trying. The new camera is slated for late July or early August, at which point I will probably try for another version of this shot just cuz I like the idea enough.

You have a nice subject, but there are quality problems, especially with the camera shake.

the dark and the blur don't really add to the composition here, in my mind. I get the darkness part (moonlight) but why this angle, and why is the hand so terribly out of focus? I guess I'm missing it.

I like the idea, but there seems to be no focus in this photo at all and, for me, that makes it very hard to look at.

Interesting angle. The piano keys hanging there like the moon in the sky...I'm not sure it works for me. The dark cool lighting and lack of focus also makes me think of the moon, but even the moon cuold be brighter and provide more distinction to what it shines on. The blur of the fingers in motion riminds you of how music moves. However the fingers don't look so recognizable - perhaps a little more light or inclusion of more than 3 fingers would help. The crop on the keyboard is also awkward - none of the lines matching up with the frame of the picture everything is a jumble of angles. You have a lot of nice ideas it just doesn't come together for me.

This shot needs a bit more light, I think. If you didn't want "white" keys, but a bluish tint to look "nightish", maybe use a piece of thin blue paper over the light, or play with the white balance.

Lots of problems here - I'll just mention one - camera shake. You don't have enough light for a hand held shot here. If you had put the camera on a trii pod or even balanced it on a chir or a beanie baby the keys would have been in sharp focus and then the blurred hand would have been effective.

I think a better focus could have helped

A bit too under exposed, and not in focus. A flash would have helped

Good subject - photo quality just a bit dark and keys that aren't being played are blury.
