From the Critique Club
A very powerful photograph and I believe the focus to be great on the mask and soft on the remaining photograph to work well. It makes the point your trying to make effective. The shot is relatively clean, however I do see some noise due to the 800 ISO but not anything in my opinion to take away from the photograph and I do believe it adds mood to the shot. Your exposure along with lighting and color is great. A good technically presented shot.
The balance seems to be off just a little to me. I think it would have been slightly better if the mask would have hid the ear on the left and the green seems to brighten up an otherwise dark mood picture. The arrangements of elements are good and visually effective to portray your mood within your work. I like the simplicity of the photograph. No extra elements to distract from the point your trying to make except as stated above the green shirt I feel is slightly to bright.
This photograph grabbed and held my attention during the voting period. I can’t say it had the ‘wow’ factor but it did have the emotional factor. For all that suffers from this illness could relate to your photograph without having to see a title, that to me is effective. Your shot is also creative, stepping out side the box in this challenge and doing a good job in doing so.
I hope you find this critique helpful and keep up the good work.

For me, this photo and title touched a nerve as I have friends who have suffered through mental illness. I don't see it as a conspiracy, but I do like the mask. It's an emotive photo. |

I think subtler lighting would help this shot out, making it a little bit darker overall and not as straight on the face. The shadow of the head behind it is also a little weird and you might think about the color of the shirt and the background. The little patch of green and the patch of color on the bottom and top right are a bit destracting from the emphasis of the face. Sorry if this seems a bit harsh, this is just my oppinion on what might give the shot more impact on the viewer! Let me know if you've got any questions :) |

Sorry but I don´t see how this is fits with the challenge theme at all. However, I like this shot, very nicely lit and totally disturbing, it has got a high visual impact so even though I personally think you are on a gray area regarding fitting to the challenge I still gave it a 7. |

Huh?
I don't really see (or get) what you're going at. The face-like structure (is it metal or a very plastered and post processed human face?) doesn't say conspiracy to me and I wonder what it's got to do with mental illness. Is this an attempt of yours to deal with something that happened to you or someone close to you?
I was clinically depressed this summer and spent 10 weeks, drugged and suicidal, in a mental institution. So, if you were "kidding" or just plain playing around (with words), please don't, because you'd obviously not know what you're talking about if you haven't been there yourself.
If you have been there, all the best to you! |
