Thanks to all for the advice and nice comments. For those that are wondering, the whole picture was made from a box of (ship) matches, some superglue, a lighter and the flashlight on my mobile phone.

I started this at 10pm and submitted the photo at 3am GMT. The model took about 3 hours. The biggest trouble was getting the superglue to attach the matchsticks together!

Oh yeah. And I am SO chuffed with the 21st place! Thanks.

Oh I am so lucky I got your photo, this was my favorite! What an awesome setup, I am sure for the time and effort you must be proud of such a photo. The men are absolutely the best part, I love the time you spent. I think a few voters probably would have voted higher if maybe you used a lighter colored lighter because it would have been more apparent. That's probably the biggest downfall is people missed what was in the jail. I like that you used like a spot light to cast the shadows inside the jail, and even the shadows for the men. The ship was a little distracting on the box, maybe it means something and I am just missing the point. Maybe this is a biast critique but I just love the work you did on this piece. Excellent job, of course I think you should have scored higher.

You got the same wicked sense of humour as I do, I like this idea but if I might make one small suggestion is that the lighting on the lighter is not really good enough, I had to really look to see that it was in fact a lighter. Perhaps a small lightsource from above would still make the shadows from the bars visible but give this shot more even lighting?

Ha... a bit more light in the back may have helped make this image pop more. Also i wonder if you have too much time on your hands to create such an image! (j/k) :p

That must have taken AGES!!! I always appreciate a good setup, I do like the lighting but I wish I could see the lighter a bit more clearly. Still a very creative shot, and you get bonus points for it being a speed challenge. Good luck

This is really cute and looks like it took some setup. The "conspiracy" is a bit hard to see, but I'm not gonna knock it. 7

You're so punny...erm, anyways, I think the lighting is a bit harsh, but great job with the matchstick men!
