From the Critique Club:
Beautiful capture. The DOF is just right to keep the subject clear and the background nicely out of focus. The exposure seems just right also.
The composition is good: the eyes are at a third point, the curve of the body is beautiful, there is enough detail with the added leaves to make the picture interesting without cluttering it up, and the gorilla's expression is right for the picture. I wonder if cropping in a bit closer (a bit less at the top and left hand side) would work.
As far as your score, it's probably lower than the picture deserves by itself because for many a picture of an animal doesn't quite fit the "color portrait" category. But you knew that already.
Overall, congratulations on a beautiful picture, and a pretty good score considering that many probably gave you low marks for "not meeting the challenge" in their opinion.
Take care,
Ursula |

i think a tighter crop would have been better. a lot of the left side doesn't really contribute much to the picture in my opinion and can be taken out of the picture |

great photo - just wondering if the lighting could have been adjusted a little so the colors would have been even deeper? |

I have 3 tens after a bit of rearranging. This is one of them. Hope you don't get too slammed for having an animal portrait, but there seem to be enough in the challenge that people will accept them. The focus is spot on and the gorillas expression is more emotive than many of the humans in the challenge. 10. |

A nice photo of a magnificent animal. Nice change from interpretive people portraits too. |

Although not human (like mine), it's almost human. You've caught this shot very well. The depth of field is spot on, giving enough detail in the subject, but throwing the background out of focus which makes the shot. Well done. |

Very good photo, but didn't feel it was in the spirit of the challenge. Felt like it would be unfare to others to give the score it probably deserved IMO. |
