 just a simple idea.. break off a branch and hold it there to create a really easy illusion. such a nice day to shoot I just couldnt help but get out there. cropped, umm... unsharp mask... border... that's it.

I really like the soft whiteness of the branch/trunk on the left. The idea for "separated" is interesting, but I didn't see that part at first because the left branch/trunk distracted me. I think it would be better if the seperated branch was the soft, white one, and the left one was dark.

You could have levelled the two 'seperated' branches and cropped the other distracting features out of shot. NIce idea though.

I like the separated branch. for me, there is a nice...graphic-like quality to your shot. Good forms and shapes.

I think another angle might have composed the tree in the shot better. A little busy (if the focus is the seperated branch). Love the blue sky background and the tree has great promise for a cool shot. Never the less, a nice job.
