Very nice shot- your outtake is better, although both are very good on their own merits. |

I had the intention of talking my daughter into posing for an almost identical shot to this for the challenge..however, I`m glad I didn`t as I would have struggled to better this one.
Very nice shot which should have finished higher in my opinion. |

Very nice portrait. The eyes are just piercing. I think this is an excellent shot for the challenge. The lighting is really what makes the photo, obviously because of the darkness around the face and the way the light directs attention to the beautiful eyes. I'm really glad you didn't leave just the eyes in color. Lately, that's what we 'expect' of a photo similar to this, and I'm glad that this is all black and white.
Focus and clarity are excellent. Really great focus on the eyes and lips.
The skin seems a bit odd to the left of the photo and the tip of the nose. Seems to almost appear flat.
There is a necklace or shirt collar in the lower left of the image and that is a bit of a distraction.
Overall the image is great. I love how she looks like she's staring at something, but we can't really see what it is. Kind of like a 'there's something out there' image.
Congrats. ~Heather~ |

Unusual choice of lighting. Im not sure I like the harsh shadow lines that much, but the light on your eyes and nose are good. |

Nice vintage shot. Some film grain would add to this. The focus doesn't seem to be entirely on the eyes. 8. |

Very nice. Moody and therefore contrasty in more ways than one. Don't wear this poor model out! She's good but not inexhaustible. 8 |

Mandy, yet again another beautiful capture of yourself! Your eyes are amazing and I love the 40-50's film noir feeling you've captured in this shot. You work really stands out (IMHO) and is refreshing to view. Great job 10! |

This is another beautiful portrait of you! Great shadows and lines. Very nice detail and composition. My only very minor critical observation is that the skin tones are mottled on my monitor. If it weren't for that, I'd say 10. As is, still a very strong entry and an 8. :-) |

These are the most amazing and beautiful eyes, they are so hypnotic, and the composition with the shadow across the face is very original. Great Job |

I like the way you were able to capture the band of light across the model's face. B + W traetement works great to really show contrast. Nice work! |

Good contrast, nice composition. My immediate reaction was that it gave a film noire feeling. This would also work in the current portrait challenge. Nice job. |

good idea. personally, i don't think you went far enough...i would have gone with everything black except the strip of light. you would have had to move the lips more into the light so they weren't cut in half. the dodging on the shoulder is a bit harsh. sorry for being critical. |

Terrific eyes. I'd love to see them exactly as they are lit here much larger. I gather a bit of the "spottiness" of the skin came from conversion to B&W. The band of light across the face makes for a more interesting photo as well as the bright glint in the eyes. |
